Well this was a special International Coffee Haus event this past Sunday. Getting together with some of our new international student friends along with some alumni from years past. We had some of the best food brought in by both our international friends and friendship partners. It was great.
This was the first time for many folks to meet our new Executive Director. She has just joined the International Cultural Exchange. With her energy and great ideas we are looking forward to expanding our reach and implementing some new events. So stay tuned.
The International Coffee Haus was filled. The weather was a bit too hot for folks to use the outside space so we all manged to fit inside nice and cozy. We had a chance to share some of the different American traditions for the summer time. And there were prizes for everyone.
One of the traditional summer sports is baseball. And so we all got together and learned a new classic song “Take me Out to the Ball Game”. Everyone got into the act on that one.

We had a special guest who flow half way around the world to be with us. The father of one of our youngest international students had just arrived here the day before. So we will excited to be the first place he visited upon arriving in Houston. We are glad he had a good flight and hope he has a wonderful stay with his son. Welcome to Houston!
Did we mention the food yet? There was a wide range of foods from just about every continent. A big thanks goes out to everyone who brought something to share.

And, since we like to have something unexpected, we had a heavy rain shower that helped cool things down. But the storm also shut off our electricity a couple of times. But everyone was so enjoying the conversations a few folks did not even realize the lights had gone out.
So thanks again to everyone who came and made this a special International Coffee Haus event. It was wonderful to see our old friends and to have time with our new ones. Hope to see you all next time.

Well what can be better than a nice barbecue outside in the park during the summer? The International Coffee Haus team was able to get a nice pavilion at the park this past week. A number of folks brought drinks, food, deserts and games. And we have us a picnic!
We had some new and traditional games to play. First off we played “What’s in a Name?” game. Here everyone has a chance to tell what their name means. We all heard some incredible stories ranging from touching to unbelievable.
Next up was the “egg toss”. Here teams have a chance to throw a fresh egg to their team mate. The receiver must catch the egg without breaking it. This was fun but did leave a bit of mess. The team with the longest range won some gifts.
Afterwards, a few folks tried their hand at the hula hoop. That one takes a bit of practice but by the end of the evening many of us learned a new skill. Oh and if you think this is just all fun, there is some current research in the journal “Human Movement Science” studying the movements needed to keep a hula hoop in motion. So it looks like our group is out in the forefront of research!

We also tried our hands with “Up Words” and manged to get a good number of the letters in use before we ran out of innovative words.
So thanks again for the folks who brought the food. We closed the place down and finally left when the park turned dark.
Hope to see you at our next event.
